Night awakenings (1/10)
Who hasn’t woken up at night to drink or go to the bathroom? Nighttime awakenings are common and often infrequent. For some people, however, waking up at night is very frequent. Sometimes it happens every night, even several times a night. However, excessively frequent nighttime awakenings are not harmless to your health. It’s during sleep that the body replenishes its energy reserves to face the day.

If sleep is too short or of poor quality, mood can suffer and you may feel tired during the day. Sleep “allows the body to recover, both physically and mentally,” INSERM reminds us. “Poor sleep quality or quantity increases the risk of irritability, depressive symptoms, as well as weight gain, hypertension, and infections.”
